New York Times Close Up

CUNY TV partnered with The New York Times to produce Close Up with Sam Roberts. This brief opening title sequence offers viewers a literal close-up of the newspaper of record's history, embedded within its iconic blackletter typeface. The staccato motion and split-screen effect, timed to an original score by Tyrik Washington, is meant to resemble the steady rhythm of a typewriter or printing press, and the march of editorial progress.
